The Best Time to Paint Your House Exterior in Phoenix

If you live in Phoenix, you already know the sun is not gentle. It bakes cars, cracks dashboards and fades anything left outside. Your home’s paint takes that same beating every single day. So when you decide it is time for a fresh exterior, one of the smartest things you can do is pick the right time of year.

Why timing matters so much in Phoenix

Paint is not just color. It is a liquid coating that has to dry and then cure into a tough film. Most exterior paints list a safe range on the can. Many say to apply them when the air and the wall are between 50 and 90 degrees.

In a Phoenix summer, air temperatures often go past 110 degrees. A west-facing stucco wall in the afternoon sun can get much hotter than the air. When paint goes on a surface that hot, a few bad things can happen:

• It dries too fast. The top skins over before the paint can level out, which leaves lap marks and brush lines.
• It does not bond well. Paint needs a little time to grip the surface. Flash drying can lead to peeling later.
• It can blister. Trapped moisture or solvent can bubble under a film that dried too fast.

2. Winter (December to February): Great for painting, as long as the crew starts after the morning chill and stops before evening dew.
3. Spring (March to April): Also excellent. Book early, since many homeowners want their painting done before summer.
4. Early summer (May to June): Doable with early start times. We paint shady sides of the house first and follow the shade around.
5. Monsoon (July to September): The hardest season. Heat, humidity, dust storms and sudden rain can all ruin fresh paint.
